Surface photogalvanic effect in Weyl semimetals

چکیده
The photogalvanic effect -- a rectified current induced by light irradiation requires the intrinsic symmetry of medium to be sufficiently low, which strongly limits candidate materials for this effect. In work we explore how in Weyl semimetals can enabled and controlled design material surface. Specifically, provide theory ballistic linear circular semimetal spatially confined slab under general variable surface boundary conditions. results are applicable with an arbitrary number nodes at radiation frequencies small compared energy non-linear terms dispersion Fermi level. confinement-induced response is tightly linked configuration Fermi-arc states, specifically connectivity direction emanation from nodes, thus inheriting same directionality sensitivity As result, system becomes much richer than that infinite system, may tuned via manipulations.

Quantized circular photogalvanic effect in Weyl semimetals
The circular photogalvanic effect (CPGE) is the part of a photocurrent that switches depending on the sense of circular polarization of the incident light. It has been consistently observed in systems without inversion symmetry and depends on non-universal material details. Here we find that in a class of Weyl semimetals (for example, SrSi2) and three-dimensional Rashba materials (for example, ...

متن کاملTowards three-dimensional Weyl-surface semimetals in graphene networks.
Graphene as a two-dimensional topological semimetal has attracted much attention for its outstanding properties. In contrast, three-dimensional (3D) topological semimetals of carbon are still rare. Searching for such materials with salient physics has become a new direction in carbon research. Here, using first-principles calculations and tight-binding modeling, we propose a new class of Weyl s...
متن کاملCharge transport in Weyl semimetals.
We study transport in Weyl semimetals with N isotropic Weyl nodes in the presence of Coulomb interactions or disorder at temperature T. In the interacting clean limit, we determine the conductivity σ(ω,T) by solving a quantum Boltzmann equation within a "leading log" approximation and find it to be proportional to T, up to logarithmic factors arising from the flow of couplings. In the nonintera...
